RECREATION CENTER PROJECT
At Creative Connections Clubhouse, we understand the importance of having a recreational center added back into the City of Amsterdam. We enjoy helping the community strive toward greatness and providing our youth with healthy outlets. This recreational space would impact those of varying backgrounds to increase their confidence, mental health, and other life skills though providing a community gathering space for recreational activities and much more.
Our generous donors include the Hannaford Charitable Foundation, Stewarts/ Susan and Bill Dake Fund at Cornell, Montgomery County Capital Grant, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbra- DASNY Funds, Jordan Family Foundation, Golub Foundation, Rotary Club, Target, and - multiple contributors who wish to remain anonymous.

There has not been a community gym space in the city of Amsterdam for over 20 years. We need to offer our city and, specifically our youth, more options for healthy outlets. The gymnasium is envisioned as a multipurpose facility hosting farmer’s markets, food drives, recreational sports (AAU/ Travel Sports), and large community meeting spaces. The monetary donation would make a permanent mark on the community, providing a safe environment for many services. The gymnasium project is a very sustainable operation that can be utilized for years to come. Sustaining our recreation center will be achieved by focusing on diversifying revenue streams by offering various programs, classes, and events that cater to different age groups and interests, while also utilizing the space for community events or private rentals. All of these events will take place outside of the Clubhouse hours of operation as our main focus is to help the youth that we serve.

A recreation center in a low-income neighborhood is essential because it provides a safe and accessible space for youth and young adults to engage in physical activities, socialize, and participate in community events. It promotes health and well-being by offering programs that encourage active lifestyles, which can combat obesity and related health issues often prevalent in underserved areas. Additionally, a recreation center can foster community cohesion, offering educational and developmental resources, job training programs, and cultural activities that empower residents and enhance their quality of life. It is our goal to help as many individuals as we can. With the addition of the gymnasium we will be able to do just that by offering recreational sports leagues right in our backyard. At the Clubhouse we already address this issue by offering different sorts of programs within our Clubhouse. However we also partner with the Greater Amsterdam School District and use their gymnasium space when available to engage our youth in sports and recreation.
